Updates!

Published on Saturday, October 1, 2011 in , , , ,

I cant believe I have not blogged in months. Well here is a semi update with my hair.

I'm not even sure if I blogged about cutting some of my hair in August. I took off about an inch because of some damage. It is now October and my hair is growing back fine. I have been taking better care of it and I can see the difference. I still cant stand my hair most of the days but there is more positive than negative :)

I rarely wear my hair out, it is in twist most of the time. I have not been out to buy any hair products in months. I was using what ever I had until it was gone. I recently went out  and bought a new shampoo and conditioner. I purchased Kinky Curly come clean shampoo and Aussie Moist conditioner (pump bottle)

Other than water these are the only products that I will use for my hair. I have been re-acquainted with Shea Butter. This should be a staple product for naturals. For a while it was just Shea butter and water for my hair.

Here is a recent photo of my hair.

Celebrities who hair cuts made a whole lot of difference! Pt.1

Published on in , , , , , ,

Hair is so easy to change in the matter of minutes. With just one snip you could have a whole new hairstyle. Some of these celebrites did what we call the 'big chop'. Did their 'big chop' help their career or help damage it. You be the judge.

For instance:

Trey Songz
Trey Songz

Solange

LLoyd:

Lauryn Hill

Jim Jones

My hair! Im having such a hard time

Published on Sunday, July 10, 2011 in , , , ,

I may do a MINI BC in my near future!!!

My 1yr of being natural was last month and I decided I wanted to straighten my hair. I straightened the back part (a small part) and stopped. I didn't feel like continuing and I just seen so much damage which made me upset.

I have always had a problem with the back part of my head with growth. The outer parts grown alot but the middle part grows some but not as much as the other parts. It breaks so much more than the rest of my head.

Here are some pictures. (not great pics but you can kind of see the length difference)

Here is my relaxer days (same problem)
The main reason why I wanted to go natural. I didnt know the problem would follow me in my natural journey :(

I tried to straighten my hair. Huge Fail!!

This picture here makes me want to start over.
Why is my back/middle so thin?

I ended up cutting my hair even in the back because there is no use in keeping my hair long in certain sections and short in others.

I have to start taking care of my hair way better than I have been. I am going to braid my hair up tonight and keep it like that for a while. It needs a rest. You don't see how much damage you have until you straighten your hair (or do a blowout). I am also tempted to go to the salon and have them do a semi BC on my head and start over!

I have to decrease the tension that I place on the back of my head (x100) I am always careful when I detangle my back. Every time I do twist or braids I make sure I do at least two or three braids just for the middle (to make sure I am not pulling at my hair)

Am I the only one having this problem??

Are these guys growing their hair out?
Rapper, artist, producer and music executive Lupe Fiasco performs at the KahBang Festival Friday night, Aug. 12, 2011.

Lupe Fiasco: You can clearly see now that he is. I love it. His hair looks like it is growing faster than mine.(lol) Im not sure what is going on with Trey Songz, we all remember him with the braids, he may want them back? And Wiz khalifa.

Lupe Fiasco- Out of my head ft-Trey Songz

Am I the only one who noticed Trey Songz and Lupe new hairstyle choices. They recently did a video for my favorite song off of Lupe's album, Lasers.

I am NO longer a Fan of the Tangle Teezer

Published on in ,

When the tangle teezer first came out and all the naturals were doing reviews and going out to buy it, i didnt even want to be bothered with it. I used the denman brush and it was just ok to me. I eventually went out and purchased the tangle teezer.

I was using the tangle teezer for a couple of months. I used it in the shower to detangle on my wash days. The hair loss (stuck in the brush) I associated it with your typical sheddding. I should have realized that my hair was breaking and not shedding from using the tangle teezer. Now im not saying im blaming the tangle teezer because I should have known what worked for my hair. And this product is not for me.

After I did my 1yr length check I noticed all of the breakage. That was a true eye opener. I know that I have to take care of my hair better. I cant depend on these products to do my job. All I need is my conditioner, a wide tooth comb (my fingers) and I am fine.

Question of the Day!

Published on in , ,

How do you wear your hair to the beach/pool?
Source: Coco and Creme

I recently went to the beach with my family and I wore my hair in a puff. (It was a failed braid out because I added too much Shea Moisture smoothie to it and it weighed it down to much) Anyways, I did not intend to get my hair wet because I didn't want to deal with the detangling, I knew would follow after I wet it. After getting knocked down by a big wave, my hair was wet (lol).
Source: The Coil Review

I am not one of those girls who say: "I dont run from the rain" Water is a gift and a curse to my natural hair. We all know the benefits of water. But my hair and water do not get along (lol) After my hair got wet it shrunk up so bad! I was happy I still had my puff in (with my hair band) because I would have had a TWA after it was all dried. People say "Embrace Shrinkage" not me! I run far away from it.

This happened to me last summer. I was not to lucky. I didn't wear my hair in a protective style or even my puff, I just had a very dry, short, Afro.

What are some styles that work for you at the beach or at the pool?
What products do you use to protect your hair from the water and sun?

Facial Bump Remover by @AAbookblogger

Published on in ,

Recently I was having a problem with my bumps on my face for a couple of days (I think it was because of stress). After tweeting about it I was giving a recipe for bump remover by Keshia. I did not get a chance to use it because the bumps eventually went away but I will keep this recipe for future use. It is very simple and inexpensive.

Here are the ingredients for this lovely facial:
*Oatmeal,
*Honey,
*Milk,
*Salt,
*Sugar,
          *Baking soda.

You should buy off brand oatmeal. Its usually finer, and grind up more than name brand oatmeal. Yu can add as much of each ingredient that you want.

Prep:
I usually prep this in a tight sealed container.  I usually make enough to last me a few weeks. You can also make it as thick as you want. After I prep it I place it in the fridge . It doesn't have to go in the fridge, I just place it in there so that it can get a little stiff.

The process:
I think you can use any soap. but I usually use  black soap, or aveeno's oatmeal bar soap. you will need Apple cider vinegar, and a very good skin moisturizer. You will need to lather the soap really good. Once you have a good lather you should dip your hand in the facial and rub on your face mix with the soap. Once your face is covered to your satisfaction. Let the facial sit  for a  minute or till you can stand it. ( it will tingle, sting a bit) but nothing to cry about.

Once  the facial drys up rinse off completely. When you face is free from oatmeal . Take the ACV, with a cotton ball and swab it over your face. The AV works as an astringent. ( may be rough to handle) but you should be ok. beauty hurts girl! After you complete this process. use the soap that you lather with in the beginning  and wash your face again. Once your done with this process, moisturize.
I usually do this in the evening everyday if my schedule allows me to.

Another  remedy that you can try is an aloe Vera plant.  You can make an baking soda paste too. All you need to do is add water to some baking soda.  Mix it well Then let it sit on your face. and wash off. You will need a good moisturizer

I love this blue nail polish. They were both 7 dollars each. The bluish one is called 'My lifesaver' and it is in the Justin Bieber collection 'one less lonely girl' and the pink is called You're an Angle. For the blue I had to put on a couple of coats but I love the outcome.
